This devices is mentioned in the leaked manual. Also, this device seems to be the most common device to be found these days on the streets.

This Multi-Pay Terminal accepts a range of coins, including the dollar coin, plus magnetic stripe commercial credit cards, calling cards and "smart" chip cards.

Coins are held in escrow until positive call connection is detected, eliminating the need for a separate coin return mechanism; fewer mechanical parts mean increased reliability.

M1241 Millennium Multi-Pay Multi Application Terminal

The Multi-Application Terminal includes the best of Millennium Multi-Pay Terminals. This terminal accepts both "smart" chip and magnetic stripe cards, as well as coins. Plus, it is designed to accommodate emerging technologies. Downloadable code allows terminals to do an automated firmware upgrade over an X.25 line.

Until now, to update terminal versions or firmware, technicians had to visit each phone and replace the firmware chip on the control PCP. The standard bright yellow card reader and the "smart" chip and magnetic stripe icons give this Millennium a distinctive image that attracts use by consumers.

M1245 Millennium Graphical Terminal

Beyond providing traditional call revenue with advanced multipay options, the M1245 terminal can offer a variety of additional revenue opportunities that allow Payphone Service Providers (PSPs) and site agents the ability to sell products via ads and direct-dial links.

Enhance image and brand awareness. Provide public service announcements. Deliver electronic promotional messages. Display advertising links the selected call-to-action to specific, consumer response keys for immediate, direct response. PSPs and site agents work together to promote their own products and services via key linked messages or sell response key positions and promotional screens to third party advertisers for additional revenue generation.

Consumers benefit as well with interactive links to timely and relevant information and quick, easy access to the products and services they want. And as consumers take advantage of the M1245 terminal's many conveniences, profitability for the PSP and site agent can increase through follow-on calls, directory assistance and call commissions.

No technical or physical specification has been posted on the website. Apart from the display, it's probably pretty much the same like the other Millennium-phones with VFDs.

Millennium validates the card in real time, protecting against unauthorized use. To make another call, just press a key.

Millennium Inmate Terminals

The Millennium Inmate System is a mature Inmate Services platform which has been developed by QuorTech to offer Inmate Service Providers with a network compatible, system based solution, which can provide broad service capabilities nation-wide. In addition, the Millennium System investment provides several opportunities to expand Sprint services into other transaction based businesses.

The Millennium Inmate Payphone and support system provides prison officials with additional control features which are needed to compete in this market today. Features offered include limited call duration, programmable curfew periods, and blocking of calls to specified numbers (numbers may be blocked per inmate, per prison or nation-wide).

The system also allows calls to specific 1-800 numbers and provides an emergency / auto dialer button. It can also assist with recording and monitoring efforts of prison officials by interfacing to recording equipment, providing call detail records and advising both calling and called parties that the calls may be monitored or recorded. Prison officials are able to adjust controls and request a variety of reports through software on their PCs.

There are two types of the Millennium Inmate payphones included in the Millennium Inmate Systems solution:

Millennium Inmate Payphone with card-Reader

Millennium Inmate Payphone without Card-Reader

No technical or physical specification has been posted on the website.

Judging by the advertising-text, the hardware corresponds to one of the Coin-Only- or Card-Only-devices and additional software to be run on the prison-computer-system - so probably just an extension of the Millennium Manager.

Millennium Manager

Feature Benefit
Reliable, fault tolerant Minimized denial of service or loss of revenue due to system downtime.

MILLENNIUM Manager can be configured to support regional operations Regions need only deal with their own reports, alarms and installations etc.
Sophisticated fraud management Real time monitor for entire PCS environment to look for fraudulent activities. Direct bank validation Hotlist and country code screen & range screen.
Platform for the future Smart Card Services, Debit Services

No detailed specification has been posted on the website.

The Millennium Manager is said to cost around 1 Million US-Dollars if to be bought and there are not many know running instances of it - one is at WiMacTel/Quortech. Price aside, another reason for this might be, that the software only runs on HP Tandem-servers.

Addons/Upgrades

Except for the eMillennium and the M1361 Desk Terminal, (probably) all phones can be upgraded with the following options. At any given time, there can only be one option installed.

  • No upgrade / blank panel
  • 5 Button Quickdial-panel
  • 10 Button Quickdial-panel
  • SMS/eMail/TTY-keyboard

Each phone can also be fitted with a modem-/data-jack, which is installed on the side of the box. This upgrade does not inhibit the above mentioned addons. The datajack has also been seen as an integrated part of the cardreader-bezel.

Also, it is (probably) possible to pass from one phone-type to another by replacing the card-reader and/or display.
